Fitness Evaluation - During this one-hour appointment, you will fill out a health risk inventory, waiver and release form and a coronary risk profile. You will have your blood pressure taken along with resting heart rate. Anthropometric measurements (circumferences or girth measurements) are taken as well as a bio-impedance reading of body composition. Abdominal strength, shoulder flexibility, back flexibility and hamstring flexibility are all measured. We finish the testing with the YMCA sub maximal bike test. Once all of the tests are completed, you will be given a clear explanation of your results.

The fitness staff recommends all members have this test completed at least once a year although it is not a requirement for fitness center membership.

Any component of the fitness evaluation can be done separately once the member has completed a full fitness evaluation.

Fitness evaluations are performed by appointment only at no cost.

Orientation - During the orientation, the fitness staff introduces or refreshes you on all of the equipment in the center. Our goal is to make you feel as comfortable using the equipment as possible while making sure you are using it correctly and safely. You are given a work out card with all of your seat adjustments with set and repetition recommendations as well. This appointment takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour and is performed by appointment only. An orientation to the equipment is a requirement for fitness center membership.

Personal Training - Are you bored with your routine or need some direction to achieve your goals? The fitness team can provide you with a personalized program to help you attain your goals, whether it is weight loss, muscle gain or running that marathon! There is no cost for this service. All fitness staff members are certified personal trainers.

Smoking Cessation - Our smoking cessation class follows the American Lung Association Freedom from Smoking guidelines with a focus on the positive aspects of quitting smoking. The program is based on the underlying premise that smoking is a learned habit and individuals taught themselves how to smoke. Quitting then is a process of unlearning this automatic behavior. You will learn about such things as techniques in helping cope with the symptoms of recovery, the general health effects of smoking, motivation, healthy eating, exercise and much more. The class meets for one hour per week for 6-8 weeks. If you attend all scheduled classes, you will receive your smoking cessation aid at a reduced cost (if you chose to use one). Smoking aids that you may choose from are bupropion, the patch, gum, lozenges or Chantix. Sessions are held several times per year. Contact your local fitness center for information.

Healthy Weighs - This class was designed to help those interested in learning how to eat healthier and/or lose weight. Developed by QuadMed dietitians and Quad Fitness staff, this class encompasses not only healthy eating but also the importance of exercise and it's effect on weight loss. The class meets one hour per week for 8 weeks. Topics include the food guide pyramid, the Healthy Weighs eating program, exercise, portion size, restaurant eating tips, reading food labels and many others.

The classes are taught by a registered dietician and fitness staff members. Cost is $20.
